Artistic Credo

Operas for today — a position statement on my music (2020)

I tell stories of today using contemporary narrative techniques. At the same time, I take my bearings from the old operatic tradition and seek to carry it forward in a contemporary way.

I write deliberately tonal music with a modern sonic language.

The real caesura in the history of music is not twelve-tone composition, but the abolition of melody.

Independence is a composer's highest good.

Simple musical language that is clear and understood — that is the high art.

Great emotions are the reason opera is written.

Ritorniamo all'antico è sarà un progresso.

— Giuseppe Verdi
